Child care software for Virginia centers
The parts of running a center that depend on your state, set up for Virginia instead of left for you to build.
Immunizations by your state's schedule
Each child's vaccines are checked against the CDC childhood schedule for their age, so the office sees who is due.
Staff-child ratios in Virginia
From Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers, 8VAC20-780-350, Staff-to-children ratio and group size requirements (ages: 8VAC20-780-10). In Farlow you set these bands once, and every room is counted against them as children check in and out.
| Age | Children per staff member | Largest group |
|---|---|---|
| Birth up to 16 months | 4 | 12 |
| 16 months up to 24 months | 5 | 15 |
| 2 year olds | 8 | 24 |
| 3 year olds up to school age | 10 | 30 |
| School age up to 9 years | 18 | No limit set |
| 9 years through 12 years | 20 | No limit set |
In a group of mixed ages, the youngest child's ratio and group size apply to the whole group (8VAC20-780-350(C)).
During a rest period, 16 to 24 month olds may be 1:10, two year olds 1:16 and preschoolers 1:20, with another staff member on site to help (8VAC20-780-350(I) to (N)). A balanced mixed-age group of three to six year olds may be 1:14 with a group of 28 (350(O), (P)).
Read on October 24, 2026 from the state's published rule. The rule itself is what an inspector goes by.
