Child care software for Massachusetts centers
The parts of running a center that depend on your state, set up for Massachusetts instead of left for you to build.
Immunizations by your state's schedule
Each child's vaccines are checked against the CDC childhood schedule for their age, so the office sees who is due.
Staff-child ratios in Massachusetts
From Massachusetts 606 CMR 7.00, Standards for the Licensure or Approval of Family Child Care; Small Group and School Age and Large Group and School Age Child Care Programs, 7.10 Ratios, Group Sizes and Supervision. In Farlow you set these bands once, and every room is counted against them as children check in and out.
| Age | Children per staff member | Largest group |
|---|---|---|
| Infants (up to 15 months) | 3; 7 with 2 staff | 7 |
| Toddlers (15 to 33 months) | 4; 9 with 2 staff | 9 |
| Preschool (33 months to school age) | 10 or 12 | 20 or 24 |
| Kindergarten | 15 | 30 |
| School age | 13 | 26 |
Where two numbers are given, the rule lets the center choose: the first ratio goes with the first group size.
In a group of mixed ages, the rule's own age groups apply (the table below): the narrowest one that holds every child in the group (606 CMR 7.10(9)(c)).
| Group | Children per staff member | Largest group |
|---|---|---|
| Infant / toddler group | 3; 9 with 2 staff | 9, at most 3 infants |
| Toddler / preschool group | 5; 9 with 2 staff | 9 |
| Preschool / school age group (to age 8) | 10 | 20 |
| Kindergarten / school age group | 13 | 26 |
These are the numbers for large group and school age programs. Preschool numbers are for full-day programs; a half-day program is 1:12 in a group of 24. Kindergarten here means children going to first grade the next year (606 CMR 7.10(9)).
Read on October 29, 2026 from the state's published rule. The rule itself is what an inspector goes by.
